Apricots
The apricot tree is a fruit-bearing, long-lived, deciduous tree that belongs to the genus Prunus of the Rosaceae family. In Cyprus, the tree is known as Chrysomilia.
It is native to Eastern Asia and the Himalayas, from where it was introduced to the rest of Europe via Armenia—hence its scientific name Prunus armeniaca. It must have been known in China, as there are references in texts indicating that around 2200 BC it was called Sing.
